Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL Wormer Tablets control gastrointestinal roundworms and tapeworms in dogs and puppies.
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL Flavour Tablets are pale brown to brown oval-shaped divisible tablets, scored on both sides. These tablets contain 175 mg praziquantel, 504 mg pyrantel embonate, and 525 mg febantel as active constituents, along with 408.0 mg irradiated artificial beef flavour.
For oral administration only, the recommended dose rate is 15 mg/kg body weight febantel, 14.4 mg/kg pyrantel, and 5 mg/kg praziquantel. This is equivalent to 1 Drontal Plus XL Flavour Tablet per 35 kg bodyweight. For dogs weighing less than 17.5 kg, Drontal Dog Tasty Bone Tablets (1 tablet per 10 kg) should be used to achieve accurate dosing. The tablet(s) can be given directly to the dog or disguised in food. No starvation is needed before or after treatment. For routine treatment, a single dose is recommended. For the control of Toxocara, nursing bitches should be dosed 2 weeks after giving birth and every two weeks until weaning. For routine control, adult dogs should be treated every 3 months. In the event of heavy roundworm infection, a repeat dose should be given after 14 days.
Consult a veterinary surgeon before treating pregnant animals for roundworms. The product may be used during lactation. Do not exceed the recommended dose when treating pregnant bitches.
Contra-indications and Warnings:
Do not use simultaneously with piperazine compounds. Concurrent use with other cholinergic compounds is not recommended. In very rare cases, slight and transient digestive tract disorders such as vomiting and/or diarrhoea may occur. In individual cases, these signs can be accompanied by non-specific signs such as lethargy, anorexia, or hyperactivity. Drontal Plus XL Flavour Tablets are well tolerated in dogs. In safety studies, doses of 5 times or greater gave rise to occasional vomiting. Fleas serve as intermediate hosts for one common type of tapeworm - Dipylidium caninum. Tapeworm infestation is certain to re-occur unless control of intermediate hosts such as fleas, mice, etc., is undertaken. Since it contains praziquantel, the product is effective against Echinococcus multilocularis, which does not occur in the UK or Ireland but is becoming more common in some European countries. As a precautionary measure to prevent establishment of E. multilocularis in the UK and Ireland, it is recommended that all dogs entering the country be treated with praziquantel.
